Active since 2021, the Vinnie Marroni Miracle Assist Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that has been promoting awareness of mental health issues and removing social and economic barriers to treatment for America's Junior Hockey players and other young people.
Prevention of the suffering and tragedy that can result from lack of treatment for those living with mental illness is what drives us to do what we can to help those in need. Many of us here have been deeply and personally affected and are committed to shielding others from our experience.
We are a collaboration of mental health care professionals and active, concerned citizens that believe there is a difference that can be made in many lives and that we can hope to be that difference.
Vincent Anthony Marroni was born in 2002 and grew up in Plymouth, Michigan. At age four he started playing hockey and after making the transition to goaltender in middle school, pursued his opportunities at Cabrini High School in Allen Park, Michigan, in Montana with the Great Falls Americans, and finally ending his young career with the Detroit Fighting Irish in 2021.
In that time, Vinnie had traveled much of the United States as well as the middle east and participated in journalism programs at Indiana University and Boston University before finishing his senior year of high school with Indiana University's High School program. Once his junior hockey days were over he had planned to attend Arizona State University to pursue broadcasting but these plans were never realized.
Always a strong-willed and goal driven person, Vinnie was resistant to treatment for his issues and thought that he was capable of of taking care of his illness on his own, but this was not the case. His years of struggling with depression and bipolar disorder came to an end in July of 2021. It is our hope that his life can be an example to those struggling with mental illness and suicidal thoughts and we can be the conduit that those seeking help can use to bridge the gap between a dark and troubling present and a bright and promising future
